Secret Service Investigates Shots Fired Outside VP Joe Biden’s Home

By Steve Neavling

The Secret Service is trying to determine who fired shots outside Vice President Joe Biden’s home in Delaware on Saturday night, the Washington Post reports

The Secret Service said a vehicle fled the area after firing the shots at the home in the small, wealthy suburb of Wilmington.

Neither Biden nor his family were home at the time.

About 35 minutes after the shots fired at 8:25 p.m., federal authorities arrested a driver who refused to yield to secure perimeter.

It wasn’t clear this morning whether that person was involved in the shooting.

“The Secret Service is working closely with the New Castle County Police on investigating this incident,” according to a statement released by the Secret Service.

Biden’s office declined to comment, referring questions to Homeland Security.

Victor Castillo lived a quiet life as a maintenance man for an apartment building in Wilmington.

Turns out, Castillo’s real name is Ignacio Constantino, and he was wanted for first-degree murder in Tennessee for 13 years, the USA Today reports.

The FBI, along with local police and the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested Constantino on Thursday without incident.

“Our community is very happy that he has been taken into custody and we look forward to him facing the first-degree murder charges,” said Morristown police Maj. Michelle Jones, a spokesman with the department.

Local police said cooperation among law enforcement agencies was key.

“This arrest is a demonstration of the effectiveness of law enforcement working together throughout our country,” Police Chief Roger Overholt said in a statement. “It is important to our community that Constantino faces the charges brought against him in this violent crime.”

FBI Fears Gangs Are Targeting North Carolina Police in Retaliation for Shooting

A gang in Wilmington, N.C., appears to be retaliating against police for fatally shooting one of its members in October, the Star News reports.

Police shot Brandon Devone Smith on Oct. 13 after he allegedly fired at a sheriff’s detective. A state investigation concluded the fatal shooting was justified.

“Low-ranking gang members have committed to engage in shooting in the City of Wilmington for the next 52 days in retaliation for Smith’s death,” an FBI memo reads.

The FBI and local police have witnessed a spike in violence among gang members who are showing a “blatant disregard for authority and for life,” according to the Star News.
