Tenn. U.S. Atty. Russ Dedrick Steps Down This Week

Russ Dedrick, the  Knoxville, Tenn. U.S. Attorney some call “Captain America”, is retiring,  according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

The 63-year-old prosecutor steps down this week. He is expected to be replaced by William C. Killian.

Former U.S. Attorney John Gill, who hired Dedrick as a federal prosecutor during the Reagan years, said: “Captain America is what we call him. He’ll take on anything that needs to be done.”

WASHINGTON — President Obama nominated two more U.S. Attorneys on Thursday, this time for Pittsburgh and Knoxville, Tenn.

The nominees are: Private attorneys David J. Hickton for the Pittsburgh post and William C. Killian for Knoxville,  according to a White House press release. Hickton replaces the controversial Bush-appointed Mary Beth Buchanan, who lost Tuesday in her Republican primary bid for a Congressional seat.
