Oklahoma Auto Dealership Suspected of Funding Terrorism Abroad

Low financing and a bag of heroin? Get  out of town!

Agents with the DEA raided a car dealership in Tulsa, Ok. on suspicions that the business is one of about 30 others in the US selling cars and drugs to help fund the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah, FOX reports.

Agents say Ace Auto Leasing is part of a huge network which sells cars and drugs to support training and and weapons for terrorism against the U.S.

“They’re making big time money and it’s going right into weapons acquisition, terrorist training, recruiting, corruption. Things needed to carry out terrorist attacks across the world,” said Rusty Payne of the DEA, according to Fox. “Some of that money is flowing back to the United States, back to these used car companies, to purchase more used cars to ship them to West Africa to sell those at a profit and then mix those used car proceeds in with the drug dollars.”

FBI Faces Lawsuit in Ft. Hood Shooting

The FBI could be in for a big legal battle — and a costly one at that —  as more than 80 claimants seek damages of $750 million from the bureau, the US Army, the Justice Department and the Department of Defense for a 2009 incident at Ft. Hood  that left 13 dead, reports Safety BLR.com.

Beside the deaths, dozens were left wounded when Major Nidal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, opened fire at Fort Hood in Texas in November of 2009 in the Fort Hood Soldier Readiness Processing Center.

Despite “clear knowledge and warnings that Hasan posed a grave danger” to soldiers and civilians, claims the suit, government agencies did not respond accordingly. “On the contrary, bowing to ‘political correctness,’ the DOD, DOA, DOJ, and FBI in wanton disregard of the safety of military and civilian personnel, intentionally ignored the threat he presented,” says the suit.

FBI Dir. Mueller Has Concerns Over Detainee Provision

By EVAN PEREZ
The Wall Street Journal
WASHINGTON—FBI Director Robert Mueller on Wednesday said a Pentagon-funding bill that increases military authority over terrorism detainees injects new uncertainty into sensitive national-security investigations.

Mr. Mueller’s comments are the first indicating that the joint House-Senate conference bill failed to resolve concerns that had prompted the Obama administration to threaten to veto the legislation.

The legislation requires military custody of terrorism suspects who are members of al Qaeda and affiliated groups. In response to White House concerns, lawmakers included a provision to give the president broad discretion over whether the military or the civilian justice system takes the lead in terrorism investigations.

FBI’s Preemptive Tactics Questioned in New York Terrorism Sting

By Danny Fenster

Were the Newburgh Four really intent on perpetrating terrorist attacks on US military planes and the homes of wealthy New York Jews?

A report by the Guardian on Monday questions the “ethos” of  FBI investigation that led to the conviction of the four suburban New Yorkers that were jailed for 25 years earlier this year from a 2009 plot to shoot down U.S. military planes and blow up Jewish targets.

An FBI operative, Shahed Hussain, coordinated, planned and even pushed the four men repeatedly to participate in a plot they were reluctant to join, according to the Guardian.

The four men were impoverished and desperate for money, and Hussain had offered a staggering $250,000 for their participation. One of the men was so mentally affected his apartment was littered with bottles of his own urine. Further, Hussain had a long criminal history which he sought to avoid punishment for by working with the FBI.

“The case will question the new ethos of the FBI, which, since the terror attacks of 9/11, has focused on pre-emptive prosecution,” writes the Guardian.

The lawyers have appealed the conviction.

ACLU: FBI Illegally Surveilling Muslims

By Danny Fenster

It will always be a line hard to draw, between protecting the nation from another terrorist attack and reaching too far in the name of preemption. The American Civil Liberties Union sees the latter, though, and on Thursday said the FBI is using extensive community outreach among Muslims to gather intelligence secretively and illegally, reports  Jerry Markon of the Washington Post.

FBI agents in California illegally recorded information about individual’s political and religious affiliations while attending mosque gatherings and other events in Muslim communities, the ACLU says, citing internal bureau documents, according to the Post. FBI officials deny the allegations.

Some of the files the ACLU cites show FBI agents working with local communities to fight drugs and crimes. But others show agents recording Social Security numbers and other personal information, noting their political affiliations in at least one incident. The information seems to be used for follow-up investigations, but heavy redactions make it tough to come to firm conclusions, according to the Post.

Mumbia Attack Planner Who was American Focus of PBS Special Tuesday Night

By Danny Fenster

David Coleman Headley,  a lead planner of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, who looked Western and had a U.S. passport,  is the focus of  a special on Tuesday at 9 p.m. on PBS’s Frontline called “A Perfect Terrorist.”

The son of a Pakistani father and an American mother, Headley was chosen for his non-Muslim, Western look and fluency in English, reports NPR.

Headley was a walking “mix of cultures,” born in Pakistan and raised by his father after his parent’s divorce in elite military training schools, then sent to Philadelphia to live with his mother above a pub when he got into trouble in Pakistan, NPR reported. At the pub in Philly alcohol and music clashed with his conservative upbringing, leading him into more trouble.

“It’s kind of this collision with the West after this upbringing in Pakistan,” says ProPublic reporter Sebastian Rotella, who did the documentary, according to NPR. “As a young man, he slides into drug addiction and drug trafficking.”

Was FBI’s Disinterest in NY Terror Case an Indicator That It May Have Been Overblown?

Mayor Bloomberg

By Danny Fenster

Did police, district attorneys and Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg inflate the importance of a recent terror suspect arrest?  A New York magazine report suggests that was possibility.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., and Mayor Bloomberg announced the arrest of Jose Pimentel at a city hall news conference Sunday night. But it turns out that the FBI had turned down requests to take part in the Pimentel investigation, citing some “issues” the agency had with the case.

“But more information on the seriousness of Pimentel’s threat, as suggested by the absence of the FBI in the investigation, could indicate that the arrest was more insignificant than it appeared last night,” New York magazine wrote.

Pimentel had been under investigation for more than two years. Bloomberg told the press the suspect had no connections to outside terror groups and was acting as “a total lone wolf.” Pimentel kept up the website www.trueislam1.com, which posted bomb-making directions from the Al Qaeda magazine Inspire, and had allegedly spoken of his desire to train in Yemen to carry out jihad in New York.

A law enforcement official, according to New York magazine, saw it this way:  “We weren’t going to wait around to figure out what he wanted to do with his bombs. He was in Harlem about an hour from actually having assembled the bombs” at the time of his arrest, but had all the “unassembled components ready to go.”
