FBI Investigates Suspicious Package Delivered to Sen. Rand Paul’s Home

Sen. Rand Paul

By Steve Neavling

The FBI is investigating a suspicious package filled with white powder that was delivered to Sen. Rand Paul’s home in Kentucky.

The bureau is inspecting the large envelope in hopes of identifying the substance, CBS WLKY reports

“I take these threats immensely seriously,” Paul tweeted Monday. “As a repeated target of violence, it is reprehensible that Twitter allows C-list celebrities to encourage violence against me and my family.”

Paul appears to be referring to musician Richard Marx, who tweeted Sunday, “If I ever meet Rand Paul’s neighbor I’m going to hug him and buy him as many drinks as he consume.”

In 2017, Paul was assaulted by his neighbor, Rene Boucher. Paul sustained broken ribs and bruised lungs.

Federal investigators responding to a report of a suspicious package outside of an elementary school in Alabama found a device with wires and a timer.

The ATF, FBI and local police responded to a bomb threat at Magnolia Elementary School and were surprised by what they found, AL.com reports.

According to a caller, a Latino man placed the package in front of the school.

The device, which was found on a pickup truck in the school parking lot, contained actual bomb components.

“We did find a small amount of what we believe to be an actual explosive,”  said Dave Hyche, ATF’s assistant special agent in charge in Alabama.

Authorities detonated the device in nearby woods.

Federal officials said the investigation could be lengthy.

Two high-ranking Secret Service agents accused of striking a White House security fence while being heavily intoxicated interfered with an active bomb investigation, The Washington Post reports.

The agents may have even run over the suspicious package, which was dropped off by a woman about a half hour earlier.

At 10:25 p.m., a woman dropped off a package wrapped in a green shirt.

“I’m holding a [expletive] bomb,” she yelled, according to a government official with knowledge of the incident.

The woman sped off. Shortly before 11 p.m. the two Secret Service agents were returning from a work party and drove through the crime scene.

The agents have been reassigned.
