FBI and NYPD Checking on Origin of al Qaeda Graphic

The graphic is errie.

The New York Daily News reports that the FBI and NYPD are trying to find the source of a a graphic posted on terrorism websites that says: “Al Qaeda coming soon again in New York.”

The Daily News reported that authorities are trying to determine if there’s something to it, or it’s just a sick joke.

“It’s something we’re looking into,” NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told the Daily News. “We’re trying to determine the origins of it. We take all things like this seriously.”

Folk Nation Gang Members Remain at Large after FBI Arrests

Two members of the Folk Nation Gang remain at large in Brooklyn after NYPD detectives and FBI agents arrested a number of other members early Tuesday morning, the FBI said.

One of the fugitives, standing 6′ tall at about 200 pounds,  is Devon Rodney, 24,  a leader of the violent gang, according tot he FBI. Rodney is also known as D-BLOC, Devon Nias and Devon Rodriguez. He has brown eyes and black hair and sports a  He is 6’ tall, 200 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair, and sports a tear drop tattoo under his right eye.

The other man at large is Rahleek Odom, 19, who goes by the names RAH and  Ralik Odom, another member of the gang. Odom is 5’8” tall, 230 pounds, also with brown eyes and black hair. He is known to frequent the Ebbets Field neighborhood in Brooklyn, says the FBI. Odom was also recently released from prison.

The bureau is offering a reward for tips leading to an arrest. They are asking for those with information to call 212-384-1000, and will gladly accept anonymous tips.

White NYPD Officer to Plead Guilty in Case Involving False Arrest of a Black Man

A New York cop plans on pleading guilty to charges  relating to allegations that he  falsely arrested an innocent black man and later made racist remarks about the incident, reports the New York Post.

Michael Daragjati was arrested by the FBI this fall on civil rights violations. He has been in jail awaiting trial since.

After the black man complained about his treatment by Daragjati during a stop-and-frisk in Staten Island on April 15, Daragjati added resisting arrest charges before arresting the man. Daragjati, a white man, was later overheard saying he had “fried another n—–” on an FBI wiretap, the Post reports.

“Race played no part in the decision he made in effectuating the arrest of the individual in question,” Daragjati’s defense lawyer Eric Franz said after a court hearing, according to the Post.  Still, they announced plans for a plea deal.

DEA, New York Police Shootout Leaves Suspect with Stomach Shot

A shootout involving undercover DEA, NYPD and the State Police task force left one suspect wounded in upper Manhattan, reports the New York Post.

At 10 p.m., the officers spotted a group of armed men about to rob a known drug dealer when they tried to bust the thieves, the Post reported. The thieves drew weapons and a shootout ensued, leaving one suspect with a shot in the stomach, who is in stable condition. Another received a graze wound and three others were taken into custody.

No officer was hurt.

 

NY Muslim Groups Resist Cooperating With Police

After all the efforts by law enforcement to forge a lasting cooperation — particularly in the post-9/11 era —  some in the Muslim community in America remain skeptical.

The Associated Press reports  Muslim groups in New York are discouraging people from going to the New York police with concerns about terrorism, and are teaching members how to identify informants.

The distrust grows from allegations that the NYPD has spied on Muslim groups in many different ways, the AP reported.

The distrust goes far beyond NY. One national Muslim organization in California put a poster on its website warning Muslims not to talk to the FBI, thought the poster was later gotten rid of.

8 NYPD Cops Busted in Gun Smuggling Ring

And now for one of those black eyes that all police departments hate.

Reuters reports that 8 New York cops were arrested Tuesday on fed charges for allegedly helping run a run a gun-smuggling ring in the city.  Four others were also charged in the case.

Reuters reported that the U.S. Attorney’s office confirmed the arrests and said the ring also smuggled other items such as cigarettes and slot machines.

Reuters reported that of the eight officers, five are active duty officers and three are retired.

NYPD Spied on Mosques and Innocent People

The Associated Press has obtained confidential documents that show the New York cops collected intelligence on more than 250 mosques and Muslim student groups in and around New York.

AP reported that the department used undercover officers and informants to canvas the Islamic population of New York.

AP wrote that the secret documents “highlight how the past decade’s hunt for terrorists also put huge numbers of innocent people under scrutiny as they went about their daily lives in mosques, businesses and social groups.”
