WASHINGTON — Politics can be a dirty game. It can also be a dangerous one.

The FBI reports that lawmakers were the target of more threats of violence in 2010 than in any other year on record, according to The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper.

Some threats involved health care legislation, The Hill reported. And politicians from both sides of the isle were targets including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

The Hill reported the FBI opened, investigated and closed at least 26 threats against lawmakers.

Last March, The Hill reported, Pelosi got a call from a man who said: “I’m going to come down there and put a bullet in your a– when you leave.”

A McConnell staff member got a call last year from someone who said: “I’m going to kill you and your senator and your staff.”

The 48-year-old man who peppered Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with dozens of threatening phone calls over the health care bill, isn’t going anywhere.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Bernard Zimmerman in San Francisco decided Monday that Gregory Lee Giusti should be held without bond, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The paper reported that his mother told the judge that her son “has a very kind heart” but had parroted negative opinions from the media.

Authorities allege that made at least 48 calls to Pelosi between Feb. 6 to March 25 and told her she “won’t have a home to go back to” if she supported the health care legislation.

WASHINGTON — The FBI arrested a San Francisco man this afternoon for allegedly making dozens of threatening phone calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over health care reform, the latest in the backlash against lawmakers who supported the legislation.

Gregory Giusti, 48, was arrested around 12:15 p.m. and was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in San Francisco at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Patti Hansen, a spokeswoman for the FBI in San Francisco, told AOL News.

Hansen said the charges were under seal, and, therefore, she could not comment on them.

“We take threats against elected officials very seriously,” she said.
