‘Heroic’ Off-Duty Border Patrol Agent Thwarts Carjacking, Assault of Pastor

An-off duty Border Patrol agent from the El Centro Sector helped thwart a carjacking over the weekend in what the agency called a “heroic act.”

Roy Rosas was on his way to work when he spotted a 24-year-old man attacking a local church pastor as he tried to steal the victim’s car in Westmorland, Calif., on Sunday afternoon.

The agent and a private citizen intervened, and a scuffle ensued with the perpetrator. The two men managed to detain the suspect until police arrived.

The assailant was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries and later released before being booked into a county jail.

“As sworn officers, Border Patrol agents risk their lives every day both on and off-duty,” Chief Patrol Agent Gregory K. Bovino said in a news release Thursday. “Agent Rosas actions demonstrated just that and brought great credit upon himself and the U.S. Border Patrol.”

Earlier this month, an off-duty Border Patrol agent in San Diego detained a man who was slashing a knife through the air while approaching bystanders.

Was ‘Hero’ ATF Agent Too Cold After Shooting a Bronx Weapons Dealer?

An ATF agent hailed as a hero for fatally shooting a Bronx weapons dealer is suing the federal agency because he was taken off full duty after the incident, the New York Post reports.

Adam Bruzzese, of Long Island, said his bosses at ATF were convinced something was wrong with him because they believed he didn’t show enough emotional reaction.

“Although Mr. Bruzzese appreciated the gravity of the on-the-job shooting, he did not experience any psychological, psychosomatic or emotional difficulties and he was willing and able to return to work immediately,” the suit states.

But a boss “questioned Mr. Bruzzese’s mental and emotional stability because Mr. Bruzzese did not seek further counseling, did not take time off from work and was supposedly not acknowledging the seriousness of the incident,” the suit says.

The FBI agent whose investigation brought down CIA Director David Petraeus played a major role in foiling a terrorist attack.

The USA Today reports that Special Agent Frederick Humphries II helped stop a terrorist plot to blow up Los Angeles International Airport in 2000.

Humphries also fatally shot a knife-wielding man at Tampa’s MacDill Air Force Base in 2010, the USA Today reported.

Now Humphries is credited with kickstarting the Petraeus investigation after he first saw threatening emails from the CIA director’s biographer, Paula Broadwell.
