About a decade before Omar Mateen opened fire on an Orlando nightclub, killing more than 50 people, he worked for a global security firm that was one of the biggest contractors for the federal government after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Mateen began working as a security officer for G4S Secure Solutions in 2007, The Week reports.

The job required Mateen to carry a weapon and obtain a license as a security guard.

“Mateen underwent company screening and background checks when he was recruited in 2007 and the check revealed nothing of concern,” G4S North America CEO John Kenning said in a statement. “His screening was repeated in 2013 with no findings. We were not made aware of any alleged connections between Mateen and terrorist activities.”

Although Mateen cleared company screenings, G4S reportedly was aware of an FBI investigation targeting Mateen. But the company said it was unaware of “alleged connections between Mateen and terrorist activities.”

Mateen recently worked as a security guard at a gated community.

The wife of the gunman who killed 49 people inside an Orlando nightclub is facing tough questions from the FBI to determine whether she knew the attack was going to happen.

The Washington Post reports that Noor Z. Salman, 30, went to the club at least once with her husband, Omar Mateen, before the attack.

One federal law enforcement official said Salman accompanied Mateen as “reconnaissance.”

Salman has not been arrested, but the FBI is trying to determine how much she knew about the attack and whether she had advance knowledge.

The FBI also has discovered that Mateen made at least one phone call to an acquaintance during the standoff. Details of that conversation weren’t immediately clear.

Omar Mateen appears to be a self-radicalized lone wolf who received no help overseas, FBI Director James Comey said.

During the massacre that left more than 50 people dead, Mateen spoke with police dispatchers three times, pledging allegiance to ISIS and praising the Boston Marathon bombers, the New York Post reports.

“We have seen no indication that this was a plot directed from outside the United States and we see no indication that he was part of any kind of network,” Comey told reporters.

“It is also not entirely clear at this point what terrorist group he inspired to support. Although, he made clear his affinity at the time of the attack for ISIL and generally … for radical Islamist groups.”

Omar Mateen, the man who killed more than 50 people at an Orlando nightclub, was investigated by the FBI twice for suspected radicalism.

Now federal investigators are trying to learn what motivated the 29-year-old son of Afghan parents, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Mateen proclaimed allegiance to ISIS  when he called emergency services on the night of the attack.

The FBI was concerned about Mateen in 2013 “when he made inflammatory remarks to co-workers alleging possible terrorist ties,” said Ronald Hopper an FBI official in Orlando.

Hopper said the FBI “thoroughly investigated the matter, including interviews of witnesses, physical surveillance, and records checks,” he said, and “ultimately, we were unable to verify the substance of his comments and the investigation was closed.”

The FBI also investigated Mateen in 2014 after he allegedly had contact with a Florida man who traveled to Syria and carried out a suicide attack. Agents “determined that contact was minimal and did not constitute a substantive relationship or a threat at that time.”

Just days before he opened fire at an Orlando nightclub, killing 50 people, Omar Mateen legally purchased a handful and long gun, the ATF said.

Mateen, who was twice investigated by the FBI for suspected ties to terrorists, was not barred from buying a gun.

“He is not a prohibited person,” ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge Trevor Velinor said.

Florida residents can legally purchase assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Mateen reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS before the attack.

The FBI says it foiled a terrorist attack at a South Florida synagogue.

Agents arrested on Friday a man who is accused of planning to throw an explosive device into the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, WSVN.com reports.

Agents were posing as terrorists and said no one was in danger because the suspect was being monitored.

“I think about, before we had a baby, that we used to go there for services, and God forbid, it could have been us,” said Stephanie Levine. “Thank God they stopped him, but had they not, it would have been such a horrible thing to happen to this neighborhood.”

Today is the 30th anniversary of a bloody South Florida shootout that left two FBI agents dead and another five agents wounded.

The FBI will mark the anniversary today as Director James Comey plans to speak at a ceremony at the bureau’ office in Miramar, NBC2 reports.

The shootout with bank robbers occurred in the Miami suburb of Pinecrest on April 11, 1986.

Agents Jerry L. Dove and Benjamin P. Grogan were killed, and so were the robber suspects, William Russell Matix and Michael Lee Platt.

The FBI agents found themselves inadequately armed to fight off the robbers’ heavy fire, prompting the bureau to begin using more powerful handguns.

The so-called “adopted son” of John Gotti, the late Gambino crime boss, is taking credit for the FBI raiding the Florida home of a former deputy sheriff on Monday.

Lewis Kasman, 59, told The Daily News that he prompted the raid by secretly recording the ex-deputy, Mark Dougan, for the FBI.

“I did it because it was the right thing to do,” Kasman said, claiming he feared Dougan was planning to harm the current sheriff and deputy sheriff of Palm Beach.

But Dougan said “Kasman doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

“He’s a fucking whack job,” Dougan told The Daily News. “I knew he was recording me. That was seven months ago. He kept setting his phone on the table with the microphone toward me. He’s a moron.”

Doug said the law enforcement was pursuing him because someone had hacked the personal information of sheriff’s officials and dumped it on a website that he previously owned.
