An FBI agent is about to find out what it’s like to be a defendant in a criminal trial.

Arthur “Art” Bernard Gonzales, 43, is charged with second-degree murder in the April shooting death of his estranged wife in Virginia.

Jury selection in his trial begins today, Fredericksburg.com reports.

Gonzales told a 911 operator that he shot his wife in self-defense after she tried to stab him with a knife.

The couple, who had two children, ages 10 and 12, got divorced in June 2012.

Voice recordings of accused mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger were played at his murder and racketeering trial Tuesday, showing a different side than the relatively quiet defendant that the juror has so far seen, the Boston Globe reports.

The recordings capture Bulger talking about murder, guns and funneling cash.

“Pa-pa-pa-pa-pow,” whispered Bulger, during the recorded conversation on Oct. 13, as he mimicked the sound of machine gun fire.

Bulger was referring to a tavern owner gunned down in a Dorchester phone booth in 1975.

Bulger’s jail conversation with his niece and nephew occurred through a glass partition at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility, the Boston Globe wrote.

Accused Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger was never an FBI informant, his attorneys plan to argue today at his murder and racketeering trial, Reuters reports.

It’s important to Bulger’s image to show he was not a snitch.

Defense attorneys said ex-FBI handler, John Connolly, who is in prison in connection with the case, received money from Bulger for information, but their client never fed information to the FBI.

“It should be for the jury to decide whether they believe this person was an informant,” said defense attorney Henry Brennan, of Boston law firm Carney & Bassil.

The murder and racketeering trial of James “Whitey” Bulger will turn its focus on the FBI’s 700-page file on the ex-mob boss next week, the Boston Herald reports.

The trial began this week and took a recess for the weekend beginning Thursday.

The records are expected to shine light on Bulger’s relationship with convicted FBI Agent John Connolly Jr.

Connolly is serving a 40-year sentence for leaking information to Bulger, which led to the murder of a businessman, John Callahan.

Bulger’s trial Thursday included emotional testimony from survivors of Bulger’s gang.
