A Border Patrol agent was injured after his government SUV rolled over in a single-vehicle accident in West El Paso on Thursday morning. 

The accident occurred about 7:50 a.m. 

The agent, who is assigned to the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station, was treated by medics at the scene, near the intersection of Paisano and Doniphan, The El Paso Times reports.

The unidentified agent escaped serious injuries and was in good condition. 

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the accident. 

No more details were available. 

Authorities arrested and charged two men they believe are involved in the smash-and-grab theft of an FBI agent’s gun and credentials near San Francisco on Feb. 20.  

But law enforcement didn’t recover the agent’s .40 caliber Glock-22, badge, identification or key card, which apparently were kept in a backpack in the agent’s car, The Mercury News reports.

One of the suspects, Marvin Raul Guerra, who is accused of breaking into the agent’s car, allegedly confessed to the break-in and said he and his co-conspirator threw the gun and credentials out of the window of the getaway car when they realized it belonged to law enforcement. 

Also charged was Jose Ochoa Gutierrez, who is accused of driving the getaway car. He’s accused of aiding and abetting theft of government property. 

Authorities did recover protein bars that were inside the agent’s backpack.

The agent and his wife were eating at a downtown Lafyette restaurant on Saturday when the theft occurred.

Those were among the TSA’s list of top 10 “good catches” of 2020, underscoring the sometimes bizarre discoveries at airport inspections. 

Other items on the list include a smoke grenade, cigar humidor resembling a bomb, marijuana hidden in a shampoo bottle, and a long gun hidden in the lining of a suitcase. 

The top finding? Two TSA canine handlers at the Liberty International Airport who “caught each other” and tied the knot in June. 

“On June 25, 2020, two TSA handlers professed their fur-ever love for each other! How dog-gone cute is that?”

An FBI photographer found dead in a creek in a forest in North Carolina in October 2019 died as the result of homicide, a medical examiner has finally ruled. 

Authorities found 60-year-old Kathleen Miller, of Huntsville, Ala., in a shallow creek in the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina on Oct. 7.

Gregory Miller called 911 and calmly reported his wife, who had no health issues and was a longtime swimmer, had fallen in the creek.

“I tried to call for help. I need help,” the husband said in a 911 call. “My wife has fallen in the water, and I couldn’t get her out. … I wish I could be of more help.”

Soon after her death, her husband was named a person of interest in her death. 

But the cause of her death has remained a mystery until News 19 obtained a copy of the medical examiner’s report on Wednesday. 

“In the report, the medical examiner noted that Kathleen Miller’s body showed abrasions on the bridge and sides of her nose, contusions on her back and elbow, and that her eyes had abnormally bloodshot veins,” News 19 reports. 

Graham County Sheriff Jerry Crisp said Miller’s offered differing accounts of what had happened. 

“He just gave two or three different versions of as to how she had drowned,” Crisp said.

No arrests have been made, but Crisp said he plans to soon meet with prosecutors to determine if charges are warranted. 

An FBI agent in North Carolina has taken over case, and the investigation is ongoing.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that he plans to support Merrick Garland’s nomination for attorney general. 

When asked if he expected to vote to confirm Garland, McConnell told POLITICO, “I do.”

Garland testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday in the second day of his two-day confirmation hearing. 

During the hearing, all five witnesses praised Garland. 

The committee is expected to vote on his confirmation Monday, and the full Senate plans to vote next week. 

Garland, 68, rose to national prominence in 2016 when President Obama nominated him to the U.S. Supreme Court, but Republicans denied him a hearing. 

With Democrats now in control of the U.S. Senate, Republican won’t be able to block his nomination to serve as attorney general.  

Garland was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 1997. 

Garland is a graduate of Harvard University’s college and law school.

A Border Patrol agent from the El Centro Sector was awarded the agency’s highest honor for risking his own life to save a migrant who was drowning in the frigid, trecherous waters of a canal outside of El Centro. 

Agent C. Lara was assigned to the Calexico Border Patrol Station in February 2019 when he responded to a report of a man struggling to swim across the All-American Canal. 

After several attempts to pull the man to safety using a rescue disc, Lara jumped in the canal, despite dangerous underwater currents. 

“Agent Lara, disregarding the dangers of the swift water, swam toward the victim knowing that the individual would soon give in to exhaustion and be pulled under,” CBP said in a news release Tuesday. “Agent Lara took hold of the man and pulled him from imminent danger. Agent Lara’s heroism and disregard for being pulled under himself most certainly saved the man’s life. Agent Lara went beyond the call of duty by risking his own life to save the life of another.”

Lara was presented with the Newton-Azrak Award.

The wife of convicted drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was arrested Tuesday on charges of helping her husband run his cartel and aiding his 2015 escape from a Mexican prison. 

Emma Coronel Aispuro, a 31-year-old former beauty queen, is expected to appear in federal court in Washington D.C. on Tuesday after she was arrested at Dulles International Airport in Virginia as part of at least a two year investigation. 

Guzman, the longtime head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, was convicted in 2019 on drug conspiracy charges and sentenced to life in prison. 

According to court documents, Coronel helped Guzman ship drugs and evade capture and later was the main conspirator in the successful plot to break him out of the Altiplano prison in Mexico.  

Coronel’s lawyer wouldn’t comment on the arrest.
