The FBI office in Salt Lake City said it’s investigating home-grown, violent terrorists.

“As recent events around the world, around the country have shown, this is no longer a coastal issue,” said Eric Barnhart, who heads the FBI’s Salt Lake field office that covers Utah, Idaho and Montana, the Desert News reports.

“I think there used to be a narrative that if I don’t live on the West Coast or the East Coast, I’m going to be immune from this,” he said. “ISIL has changed that.”

Barnhart declined to give numbers or they types of terrorism-related cases that are under instigation.

Barnhart described ISIS as a “whole different monster” because of its “kill where you are” philosophy.

The nation’s top law enforcement officials are warning of potential violence at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next week.

ABC News reports that officials were worried about radical activists.

“I am concerned about the prospect of demonstrations getting out of hand, and concerned about the possibility of violence,” Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson told the House Homeland Security Committee Thursday. “We have to be concerned about things getting out of hand, definitely.”

FBI Director James Comey agreed.

“It’s a threat we’re watching very, very carefully,” adding that the concern is over “a spectrum of radical groups.”

Earlier this week, local law enforcement and the Secret Service said they are prepared for thousands of protesters.

Former Fox News analyst Wayne Simons was a lot of things, but a CIA agent likely wasn’t one of them.

The Washington Post reports that the former professional football player and drug trafficker lied about a career as a spy, according to the CIA.

Simons, who said he spent 27 years as an agency operative, is expected to be sentenced this morning for perpetuating fraud and illegal firearm possession. Prosecutors are asking for a three-year prison sentence.

Authorities investigated Simmons’ life and career and found no evidence he worked as a spy.
