President Obama’s nominee to lead the TSA was approved by a Senate committee following the enforcement of the Commerce Committee less than two week earlier, Bloomberg reports.

The Senate Homeland Security Committee approved Coast Guard Vice Admiral Peter Neffenger on a voice vote.

The nomination comes at a strenuous period for the TSA, which recently was exposed for failing to spot weapons and other banned items in a vast majority of the test cases. The agency also has come under criticism for purchasing decisions, hiring practices and aggressive pat-downs.

If approved, Neffenger would replace former acting TSA Administrator Melvin Carraway.

The St. Louis Cardinals are under investigation by the FBI for allegedly hacking the computer network of the Houston Astros to steal player information, The Washington Post reports.

A federal law enforcement official said the investigation is “ongoing” and that there is “a lot of working going into” it.

It would be the first corporate espionage case involving a sports team accused of hacking the network of another team.

Federal officials said a person commits a crime when he or she intrudes on another person’s computer without authorization or permission.

Investigators said they have uncovered evidence that shows Cardinals officials hacked the Astros’ database and accessed information on scouting and potential trades.

Major League Baseball said it “has fully cooperated.”

“Once the investigative process has been completed by federal law enforcement officials, we will evaluate the next steps and will make decisions promptly,” the official said.

During a federal court hearing, FBI Special Agent Dina McCarthy said Kareem wanted to attack the Super Bowl in Phoenix in February.

“This is an individual who is apt to incite violence,” prosecutor Kristen Brook said. “This defendant, based on all these facts, is dangerous, he is off-the-charts dangerous.”

The new Republican governor of Texas is spending a whopping $800 million for border security over the next two years, raising questions about his intentions.

The Associated Press reports that Gov. Greg Abbott more than doubled the amount spent by his predecessor, Rick Perry.

Included on the shopping list is a$7.5-million high-altitude plane designed to scan the border.

The spending is unprecedented by a border state, according to the AP.

Abbott said he is just protecting Texas residents from criminals such as dangerous cartel members.

“The first obligation of government is to keep people safe and that means ensuring that this ongoing cartel activity, which is not abating whatsoever, gains no root at all in the state of Texas,” Abbott said.
