Pregnant Texas Actress Arrested for Allegedly Sending Ricin-Tainted Letters to President

 Steve Neavling

A pregnant Texas actress is accused of sending ricin-tainted letters to President Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and falsely accusing her husband of sending them, Fox News reports.

During interviews with the FBI, Shannon Guess Richardson, 35, accused her husband of sending the letters and then later claimed he “made her” do it,” Fox News wrote.

Richardson faces up to 10 years in prison on a charge of mailing a threatening communication to the president.

The letters threaten violence against gun-control advocates.

Another adage states, “There is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.” Canada Goose Jackets.

Feds Want Jesse Jackson to Serve 4 Years in Prison

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr./campaign photo

By Allan Lengel
CHICAGO — Jesse Jackson Jr., who was a fixture of the political landscape here, and carried the mantal of an iconic name in the civil rights movement, may be going away to prison for a fair amount of time if federal prosecutors have their way.

NPR reports that federal prosecutors in D.C. filed a presentence memorandum Friday recommending four years in prison following his guilty plea this year on criminal charges that he engaged in a scheme to spend $750,000 in campaign funds on personal items.

NPR reported that the feds also suggested an 18-month sentence for Jackson’s wife, Sandra, who pleaded guilty to filing false joint federal income tax returns that understated the couple’s income.

On top of that, the government wants Jackson to pay $750,000 in restitution to the campaign and that Sandra Jackson make a restitution payment of $168,000.

The Post and Courier Editorial: “Mr. Holder Should Spare the President That Overdue Task by Resigning”

By Post and Courier

A Justice Department official insisted Wednesday that Attorney General Eric Holder has a “long-standing belief that protecting and defending the First Amendment is essential to our democracy.” That’s hard to reconcile with the department’s wide-ranging wiretapping of Associated Press editors and reporters last year.

Also hard to reconcile is President Barack Obama’s decision to assign the investigation into that appalling Justice Department overreach to Mr. Holder. And this week’s offer by the attorney general to news agencies to discuss how his department should handle leaks investigations — but only “off the record” — was simply laughable.

Huffington Post’s Washington bureau chief, Ryan Grim, put it well to CNN: “A conversation specifically about the freedom of the press should be an open one.”

Judge: ATF Agent Not Negligent While Driving Through Red Light to Murder Scene

Steve Neavling

A federal judge ruled that an ATF agent was not negligent when he drove through a red light with his emergency lights on and collided with another car at a suburban Detroit intersection in 2010, The News-Herald reports.

Saying Agent William Temple “exercised due care” while driving to a murder scene, U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts said the driver of the other car, Lynae Neal, was more at fault for failing to yield to the unmarked law enforcement car.

Neal filed a lawsuit, claiming the agent was negligent, but acknowledged he heard a siren and still drove through the intersection.

Abuctions by Non-Custodial Parents up 50 Percent in Last Year

Steve Neavling

The FBI is reporting a disturbing trend in non-custodial parents abducting their children to retaliate against the legal custodian.

Instances of such abuse rose 50% last year, the FBI reported. The reasons vary from seeking revenge to trying to get the former partner back.

“Unfortunately, the threat of violence – and death – in these cases is all too real,” said Ashli-Jade Douglas, an FBI analyst in the Violent Crimes Against Children Intelligence Unit, which specializes in child-abduction matters. “ Most non-custodial parental abductors want retaliation. They feel that if they can’t have the child full time—or any amount of time—then the other parent shouldn’t have the child, either.”

Al Gore to Twitterverse: Privacy Should be a Priority

Steve Neavling

Former Vice President Al Gore launched an unusual assault on the Obama administration over the revelation that the federal government is tracking cell phone records, The Washington Post reports.

“In digital era, privacy must be a priority,” Gore tweeted Wednesday. “Is it just me, or is secret blanket surveillance obscenely outrageous?”

The tweet follows news that the government is tracking cell phone records of millions of Americans.
