Oakland Township, Mich –– On Monday morning, almost as quickly as a snap of the finger, a circus broke out at a corner of rural Oakland Township, north of Detroit.

There were no elephants and dancing bears. But there were FBI agents, sheriff’s deputies, farm equipment and lots of TV cameras and reporters, curious neighbors and gawking motorists, some who stopped to snap a photo.

The FBI was digging for James R. Hoffa.

It wasn’t a huge surprise, in some ways.

Ex-Detroit mobster Tony Zerilli had come forward and spoken to the media several months ago, saying Hoffa is buried on property at a property near the corner of Buell and Adams Road. The site once belonged to Detroit’s top mobster Jack Tocco. The FBI was interested.

Zerilli, in a transcript of a partial book offered for sale on his website HoffaFound.com, said mobsters drove Hoffa to the property on July 30, 1975, bound and gagged him, then took a shovel and “cracked Hoffa over the head with it.” A gravesite already had been dug in a barn.

“They threw him in the hole, buried him alive,” Zerilli wrote. “He wasn’t shot, he wasn’t stabbed, nothing like that. A cement slab of some sort was placed on top of the dirt to make certain he was going to be discovered. And that was it. End of story.”

Anthony Zerilli’s partial manuscript — just 21 pages — is being peddled online for $5 as a download or $8 mailed.

Zerilli was at the excavation site for a while Monday morning, but took off. His attorney, David Chasnick, said he may have been a little intimidated by the crowd.

Chasnick gave journalists copies of Zerilli’s 21-page manuscript of his developing book on the disappearance. Zerilli, 85, is broke and has said he wants to make money on all of this.

Here We Go Again: Feds Begin Search for Jimmy Hoffa on Property in Suburban Detroit

James R. Hoffa

DETROIT –– Here we go again.

The feds were searching a property Monday in Oakland County, outside of Detroit,  for the missing body of ex-Teamster leader James R. Hoffa, Robert Snell of The Detroit News reports.

The property is located near Buell and Adams roads in Oakland Township, Snell reports. The search appears to be the result of ex-Detroit mob boss Tony Zerilli coming forward on WDIV-TV (Channel 4) to say that Hoffa’s body was buried there. Hoffa disappeared in 1975. The property once belonged to mobster boss Jack Tocco.

Simon Shaykhet  of the  FBI declined comment Monday morning when contacted by Deadline Detroit.

The search is the latest over decades.

The past searches have included farm land and a house in Detroit and a driveway in Roseville. All proved to be a bit of an embarrassment to the FBi, which came up empty handed.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said the NSA database of phone and Internet records that were recently disclosed by a self-proclaimed whistleblower would have been useful in the fight against terrorism, NECN reports.

“We might have been able to prevent 9/11,” said Former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Cheney is among those adding pressure to capture Edward Snowden and hold him accountable for exposing secret surveillance.

“He’s compromised it and he should be held accountable,” said Senator Lindsey Graham, (R) South Carolina.

Added Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Georgia: “He needs to look an American jury in the eye and explain why he has disclosed sources and methods that are going to put American lives in danger.”

Chicago Surgeon Accused of Performing Unnecessary Tracheotomies for $160,000 Per Procedure

A surgeon at Chicago’s Sacred Heart Hospital is accused of performing unneeded tracheotomies to enable the for-profit hospital to collect as much as $160,000 per case, Bloomberg reports.

Investigators say the doctor sedated patients so much that they couldn’t breathe on their own so that he could perform a tracheotomy – or cut a hole in a patient’s throat to breathe.

The FBI got help from surreptitious tap recordings, Bloomberg reported.

“This complaint alleges the hospital and doctors were performing unnecessary invasive surgery to justify false billing,” said Ryan Stumphauzer, a former federal health care fraud prosecutor in Miami who reviewed the affidavit.

Former mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger will see a familiar face take the stand today in his murder and racketeering trial in Boston, Reuters reports.

A former hit man plans to testify against his ex-boss and uncover grizzly details of Bulger’s reign of terror.

Bulger, 83, faces a 32-count indictment stemming from his activities as the reputed boss of “Winter Hill Gang.”

On Friday, Richard O’Brien, a bookmaker who made illegal bets on sports, testified Friday that Bulger was a threatening force.
