The Treasury Department has tapped a top official with the Justice Department to investigate financial crimes, The Hill reports.
Jennifer Shasky Calver, who probed asset forfeiture and money laundering for the Justice Department since 2010, will replace outgoing Jim Freis.
Calvery plans to take over the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCen) in September.
“I am delighted to welcome Jennifer as the new FinCEN Director and as a key member of my senior leadership team. Her proven record of leadership and strong working relationships with Treasury, law enforcement and the federal bank regulatory agencies will be enormous assets to us as we work together to chart a course for FinCEN’s future,” said David Cohen, the Treasury’s under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, according to The Hill.
